ADR 0037: Mail screen

Context

The mail window still used a Mail / Rules / Accounts strip, and the first screen correction put All Accounts inside the folder tree, pinned menus to a dark panel, and left the folder pane able to look empty. The screen has to work like Outlook for Mac, with Duckbill organizing added on top.

Decision

1. The window title is Duckbill. Search is a centered pill on that row. The command bar is New Mail, Delete, Archive, Move, Flag, Mark Unread, Report, Block, Label, Suggest labels, and Sync. Rules and Accounts are pages inside Settings. There is no website menu bar and no Mail / Rules / Accounts strip.
2. All Accounts is the first source on the left rail. The folder pane shows that source’s folders, expanded, with disclosure triangles and the counts already known for those folders.
3. Flag, Move, Label, Block, and the filter menu open directly under their buttons on a light glass panel.
4. A folder right-click shows the item count, Open in New Window, New Folder, Rename Folder, Move Folder…, Add to Favorites, Move up the list, Move down the list, Delete Folder, Mark All as Read, Empty Folder, and Sync. A message or list right-click shows the common message actions, including Share as Email, Message, and Copy. Share does not send.
5. Block opens by Sender, by Domain, and Other. Other asks for a display name, a reply-to, and subject contains, each labeled for a sender that is not a simple address or domain.
6. Each mailbox has its own color, chosen from the Duckbill tokens and editable on the Accounts setting. The same color is used on the source and on the message.
7. Suggest labels lists existing folder names that are not system folders. Accept creates those labels only. It does not delete or create folders.
8. A message shows its images and formatting. Scripts, iframes, objects, and javascript: links are still removed.
9. A signature is HTML stored for one account in the browser. It can contain links and images. Send stays off. Forward as a rule action is still only a record.
10. Application login is off until the Accounts setting turns it on. Gmail OAuth, Microsoft OAuth, and the iCloud app-specific password stay.
11. Appearance still has no named theme list. The canvas is the existing light liquid glass.

Alternatives

• Leave the folder menu, share menu, Other dialog, and mailbox colors as single placeholders — rejected. Those controls were named after the first screen.
• Keep blocking remote images — rejected. A message has to show the images a regular client shows.
• Require application login on /mail — rejected. That login is optional. Mailbox connect is separate.

Consequences

Opening /mail does not redirect to login unless application login is required. Mailbox data still needs a session. Send stays off. No environment variable changes.
